The Ruach Foundation wants to set up a spectacles shop which will provide a wide range of optometric services affordable for poorer people. The profits of the shop will be used to fund Ruach's social programmes for intellectually disabled people in the Juigalpa area, i.e. running its Community Home and its Activities Center and its outreach work: awareness raising of the rights and talents of disabled people; advice for affected families, training etc.

*Amounts in US Dollars

(1) To maintain our social programs for people with intellectual disabilities through becoming more financially self-sufficient; (2) To raise the initial capital needed to start the optical business in a country hit hard by political and economic crises (3) Ruach's beneficiaries are those most in need and their families cannot be expected to pay the total cost of the services they receive.

(1) Ruach has optical expertise on its Board and in its network of local supporters. (2) Market research in the regions around Juigalpa showed that there is a gap in the market for an affordable optic ian shop; (3) Ruach's mother foundation in the Netherlands and our international network supports 'Ruach Optics' via fund-raising and schemes to try and purchase equipment and supplies at reduced costs. (4) It seems a realistic way of generating income for the Foundation

Long-Term Impact

(1) Improved eye care for lower income groups in Juigalpa (2) Expansion of Ruach's community home model (3) Activities Centre more accessible for adults from poor families (4) More shift in society's perspective about and social stigma of adults with intellectual limitations.
