Beginners and Beyond: Self-Care and Resilience

Beginners and Beyond is for beginners and any level student who is interested in a gentle yoga class that emphasizes a solid foundation and healthy physical alignment. This practice will integrate breathing exercises and mindfulness meditation to relieve stress and to build resilience in these uncertain times. A 75 minute practice for All Levels.

Chair Yoga

Our studio is meeting the needs of a growing population of senior adults….but, don’t be fooled…this class is for ALL AGES!!!

Not everyone can get up and down off the floor easily….which makes a traditional yoga class intimidating and difficult. If you have any health issues, this is a great class for you! With a chair, either sitting or standing, you can practice yoga and gain the same benefits of increased circulation, balance, flexibility, mobility and strength. And….it’s fun!

Core Yoga and Movement: Level 1/2

This class will teach you how to understand the functional value of yoga postures and mindful movement. Strengthen core muscles, increase  body awareness, and improve your overall mobility, balance and coordination. Offered every Thursday evening.

Gentle Yoga/Yoga Nidra

A 30 minute gentle yoga class prepares your body for 20-30 minutes of Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep. The vinyasa portion will begin with simple breathing exercises leading into a gentle asana practice, followed by 20-30 minutes of Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation that promotes healing
and deep relaxation. Yoga Nidra is an awakened state hovering between sleeping and dreaming. You will leave feeling refreshed, focused and very rested. You will be laying on your back for the meditation. You may need a blanket or pillow for neck support.

Private Sessions

Power Yoga & Movement Basics

Power Yoga & Movement Basics is a 60 minute Baptiste-inspired vinyasa flow class. Sun Salutations, balancing postures, core strengthening and movement exercises, back bends, hip openers, deep stretches and relaxation. If you want strength AND mobility, this is the class for you! Beginners are welcome!

Posture Correctives

-create better awareness of the body

-learn to properly align the spine

-build a good foundation upon which to gain strength within the body

-identify areas of weakness and tension

-stretch and strengthen connective tissue to support the body’s correct alignment

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga is practiced on the floor, or on the wall and uses props to align the body into gentle chest openers, back bends, spinal twists and forward folds. Each of the postures are held for 5 minutes or more. Deep breathing and mindful attention to the sensations of the body and the experience of stillness is a primary focus. This class is perfect for any level student who wants to restore and renew body, mind and spirit by means of a quiet, introspective practice. It is considered to be a healing practice for people who suffer with anxiety, depression, insomnia, inflammatory diseases, back pain, side effects from chemotherapy, and many stress induced symptoms in the body/mind.

Restorative Yin

Restorative Yin is practiced on the floor with a variety of props to support the weight of the body. Class begins with pranayama and centering. Postures from Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga will include seated forward folds, hip openers, supine twists, and supported backbends. Each are held for 3-5 minutes per side. A perfect class for athletes on recovery day and for anyone interested in a regular class that focuses on the release of stress in the connective tissue of the body, mindfulness, deep breathing, and relaxation. This is a healing practice for people who suffer with anxiety, depression, insomnia, inflammatory diseases, back pain, side effects from chemotherapy, and many stress induced symptoms in the body/mind.

Serenity Yoga

Release stress and center awareness through gentle postures, mindful breathing, and relaxation techniques. Improve strength, flexibility, and balance. Learn Yoga Philosophy and implement it into your every day life. Mantra and meditation are also practiced every Monday morning. Recommended for beginners and all other levels at any age.

Saturday Slow Flow Yoga

Saturday Slow Flow Yoga is led by a rotation of teachers on our staff, each with her own unique style, sequence and voice. A vinyasa-inspired class that moves at a slow pace to enhance body awareness, balance, strength, flexibility and focus. A challenging 75 minute practice for All Levels. Join us!

Strength & Grace/Yoga & Movement

This 90 minute practice is for the more experienced student. Detailed instruction will help you to refine your relationship with your body, expand your asana practice, and bring greater self awareness into your body/mind on and off the mat. Yogic philosophy, mindful breathing, and meditation are essential elements in every class. Offered on Tuesday evenings only.

Strength and Mobility

This class is suitable for all levels of ability. No prior yoga experience needed. Strength and Mobility class is designed to increase shoulder, hip and spinal mobility while strengthening legs, arms and core muscles for better balance and movement. There will be a minimum amount of getting up and down from the floor and chairs are available if needed.

Yoga Strong

This yoga class incorporates the use of resistance bands and light weights in various yoga postures to increase strength, balance and body awareness. You will need a set of resistance loop bands and some light weights, just 1-2 lbs., to use during class. The studio has resistance loop bands available and a bottle of water is a perfect substitute for a 1 lb weight.

Zen Sitting Group

Hattiesburg Soto Zen Sitting Group is within the Deshimaru lineage. The group sits for 30 minutes at a time and practices a Zen Sutra. Donation only. Contact Mark Miller for more information at mmmgeographer@gmail.com.
